Decorating Small Spaces - Condos and Small Homes For Sale

After watching many shows on the  Home and Gardens channel, as well as reading lots of articles on decorating, I've come up with a few of the latest trends in decorating small spaces from condos to patio homes to general small homes for sale in today's market.  What do you do when you've purchased a home with only 1001 heated square feet?  Or a small condo with only two bedrooms and a main living space.  Whether you are buying a new home, selling a home for sale or you are moving into a condo, you want the home to represent today's style.

It used to be that you would buy small furniture, paint the entire home all white and put mirrors up to make the room look larger.  Today, that attitude has changed.

Here are Five Current Ideas for Decorating Small Spaces

1.  Dark Colors.  Today, Gray Paint is the color of choice.   Charcoal Gray gives the illusion of depth in small rooms.  White walls are out this season.  Paint is an inexpensive way to modernize your home.  You can paint just one wall Gray; however, the trend is to paint all of the walls a darker color.

2.  Ornate, Embellishments.  Such details are preferable to small, nondescript items.  The ornate pieces give a sense of grandeur.  Such items as, hardware, curtain rods and artwork are just a few of the places where embellishments add substance to the room.

3.  Repurpose Rooms.  If you don’t need that formal dining room, turn it into a functional office.  Many small, older homes didn’t have the closet space that modern homeowners need, so repurpose that extra room into a closet.

4.  Larger Furniture.  The old way of decorating was to use small pieces that fill the room; however, this can make a home look cluttered.  Today, opt for a few larger pieces that give that sense of grandeur.

5.  Add Height.  Don’t forget to show off the height of the room with drapes to can go above the windows to the floor, as well as wall decorations that reach the ceiling.

These five changes can be inexpensive fixes that can help Sellers  and Agents sell that Home for Sale.  Buyers should be aware that when they view a Home for Sale, they can redecorate that small space to emphasize its details and give a sense of grandeur.
