Area Information

Brookgreen Gardens SculptureSpecial Places to Visit on the Grand Strand:

It amazes me to learn that many locals have never visited Brookgreen Gardens. What a treasure! It's one of my favorite places to visit year round. It reminds me of the New York Botanical Gardens; however, Brookgreen Gardens focuses more on sculptures. You can walk garden paths for miles and miles or take the tram from one location to another. That's not to say there aren't flowers (note the poppies and sculptures in the banner photo). Visiting during tulip or daffodil season is a must. There are also river treks that illustrate how the area functioned as a working rice plantation. There is even a slave cemetery you can visit. Around the winter holidays, Brookgreen Gardens puts on a special winter display filled with music, thousands of candles and greenery in its finest.

Broadway-at-the-Beach is another favorite destination. Filled with hundreds of shops, people of all ages can shop 'til they drop. When you get tired, there are lots of restaurants to help re-energize you. There are many activities for the youngsters.. Many of the rides from the Pavilion have been moved to Broadway-at-the-Beach. They have also added a Rope Course which will challenge the dexterity of the most avid young climbers. Celebrity Square is the location to party at night.

T.I.G.E.R.S Preserve is the place for animal lovers. Where else can you hold a baby tiger or orangutan? You can even have your visit documented. This is not your typical zoo. It can be the chance of a lifetime. You can visit T.I.G.E.R.S. Preservation Station, located at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach for free! Or you can take the T.I.G.E.R.S. Wild Encounter Tour, located south of Myrtle Beach airport at the T.I.G.E.R.S. Preserve.

Market Commons is the newest area in Myrtle Beach.  When it was first designed, it was a small town model whereby everything could be accessed within walking distance - hospital, church, stores, movies, living, etc.  Market Common is still growing.  There are lots of different types of living styles, apartments above stores, townhomes, cottages and single-family homes.  There are currently almost 150 stores, many of which are your well-known brand stores like Barnes & Nobles, Chicos, Tommy Bahamas, Pottery Barn and Ann Taylor.  In addition, there are major events, such as Sun Fun Festival, held in Valor Park, as well as other parks that are part of Market Commons.

Favorite Restaurants

Thoroughbred's wins for it's Jim Beam Rack of Lamb. For those who don't like lamb, they have great steaks and fish, as well. The ambiance at Throuughbreds is nice. Check out their site:  http://www.thoroughbredsrest.com/

Tommy Bahama's Not just a great store, but a wonderful restaurant , as well. Happy Hour can't be beat with the frequent specials on margueritas. They have lots of fish meals from oysters to flounder. In my opinion, they've got the best selection of desserts on the Grand Strand. Do you want to unwind after a long, hot day? Watch the sun go down over a beautiful tropical setting of Palm Trees and wicker furniture. Can you say, RELAXATION!  www.tommybahamas.com

Crady's is a small, unique restaurant in Conway. It is designed like a New York bistro. They serve lunch and dinner Monday-Friday and Sunday brunch. They are also open the second Saturday of each month to coincide with the Art Walk. Conway is a quaint historic town filled with giant oak trees and homes dating back to the Civil War. The owners of Crady's focus on healthy food with a gourmet flair. Be sure to try their homemade Raspberry dressing.  http://www.cradys.com

The Library is an excellent restaurant.  The owner will tell you that it would be a four star restaurant; however, the city will not allow them handicapped parking in front.  Without it, the restaurant cannot qualify for four stars.  The restaurant is best know for its food and service which are impeccable.   They create a caesar salad at your table.  The staff takes good care of you while you dine.  There is a private wine room for couples celebrating an engagement or anniversary.   http://thelibraryrestaurantsc.com
